Week 3 Game Summaries

Week three kicked off with two 2-0 teams, Mean Streak and The Fury.  Mean Streak put the first points on the board when Quarterback, Paul Harting, hit Rainbo Tims in the endzone.  James Striplin caught the conversion pass and put Mean Streak up early 7-0.  The Fury tried to answer but was unsuccessful as Mean Streak cornerback, Maurice Carter intercepted the first of two interceptions.  Carter earned defensive player of the week posting 3 tackles and 2 INTS.  Mean Streak scored again before the end of the half, this time on a 96 yard touchdown bomb from Harting to receiver Jeremy Thompson.  This time their conversion effort was unsuccessful and Mean Streak took a 13-0 lead into half time.  After the break, Fury receiver, Joe Imelli brought his team into the game when he caught a 14 yard touchdown pass from quarterback, Alan Ross.  Imelli was 4 for 36 yards receiving and 4 for 57 yards rushing in the game.  Ross was 11 of 23 for 124 yards and a TD.  Following The Fury's score Mean Streak quickly took back their two touchdown lead as Harting rushed in the teams' third score.  Harting ran 4 times in the game for 41 yards and a touchdown and was 12 of 19 for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns passing.  Harting threw the game's final touchdown to receiver, Will Franklin.  Mean Streak remains undefeated with a 26-6 victory over the now 2 and 1 Fury.

The 0-2 Spartans met the 2-0 Feds for game two.  The Feds took the first possession of the game but their drive was stopped short by Spartan, Jason Silverhardt.  Silverhardt picked off Feds' QB, Shawn Hudson.  The Spartans ensuing drive was also stopped short as Feds' linebacker, John Ambrose, recovered a fumble and gave his team possession again.  This time the Feds capitalized as Hudson hit tight end Ed Zinda in the endzone for a touchdown.  The Spartans attempt to answer failed and The Feds scored again before the end of the half, this time Hudson hit receiver Emil Lovec in the endzone following a 60 yard strike to receiver Nate Nelson.  Nelson had an incredible game both offensively and defensively catching 4 passes for 95 yards and posting 6 tackles and an INT.  The Spartans' defense caused 4 turnovers in the game, one INT each for Silverhardt, Carnell Berry, Jacob Nordman and Justin Mize.  Silverhardt also had 4 tackles and a sack.   But despite the awesome play of the Spartan defense the Feds' offense was able to overcome, Hudson found Ed Zinda again open and ready to take in the team's third score.  With the Feds up 18-0 The Spartans added their names to the scoreboard when Jacob Nordman caught a 69 yard pass from QB, Jeff Day.  Their conversion attempt was successful and the game now stood at 18-7.  But the Feds scored again, this time offensive player of the week, Emil Lovec, caught a 10 yard slant and took it 80 yards for the teams final score.  Lovec was 7 catches for 168 yards and 2 TDS while Hudson was 15 of 24 for 309 yards and 4 TDS.  The Feds remain undefeated following their 24-7 victory.

The Panthers were scheduled to face The Dogg Pound for game 3 of week 3 but the Dogg Pound was a no show.  So The Panthers boosted their 0 and 2 record to 1 and 2 and faced a team of league players just for fun and stats.  The automatic win proved to be a blessing for the team as the scab team composed of many former all-star players scored 31 points to the Panthers' 17.  The Panthers did have some highlights of their own despite the loss.  Defensively Eric Brown and Jeramie Moore each grabbed 3 tackles and an interception.  Moore also had a deflection.  Offensively The Panthers scored three touchdowns passing as QB, Lee Robertson found David Harris, Kevin Cox and newly signed Panther, Robert Ryan each for a score.  Cox had a big day catching 4 passes for 75 yards.  The Panthers will get the win showing up as a 7-0 win over the Dogg Pound.

*****League Milestones*****

Congratulations to Emil Lovec #24 of the Confederates.  Lovec broke the 3000 yard receiving mark during week three's Feds Vs. Spartans game.  Emil is the first receiver to reach the 3000 yard mark in league history.  Lovec is playing in his fifth CCFFL season.  He is also the only player in league history to have back to back 1000 yard seasons.

Week 5 Game Summaries

Week 5 kicked off with The Dogg Pound (scabs) versus the undefeated Mean Streak.  The fill in team consisting primarily of Spartans gave the undefeated team a run for their money.  Mean Streak receiver Maurice Carter put the first 6 points on the board following a stream of possession turnovers.  The Dogg Pound opened up the game with a successful march down field that ended with an interception by Mean Streak safety, Will Franklin.  Franklin caught 3 interceptions in the game.  Mean Streak quarterback, Paul Harting met the same fate as he was picked off during his opening drive as well.  Harting got the ball back quickly though as Franklin stopped the Pound's ensuing drive with his second INT.  Harting then found Carter for the teams' first score and then the quarterback was unstoppable completing 15 of 22 passes for 271 yards and 4 touchdowns.   Mean Streak cornerback and team captain, Sage Tims, caught an interception in the game giving his team's defense a total of 4 turnovers.   Mean Streak receiver, Jeremy Thompson caught a bomb from Harting and went 91 yards for the teams second score bringing them to half time with a 13-0 lead.  After the break, The Dogg Pound got into the game with a score of their own putting them down by only 6.  But Mean Streak receiver Will Franklin found that was too close for comfort and he took the two TD lead back with the first of two touchdown receptions.  The Scabs came back and scored another TD of their own but Franklin's final TD was enough to secure Mean Streak's 26-13 victory.  Franklin had a great game offensively and defensively receiving 8 passes for 84 yards and 2 TDS and capturing 3 INTS and a tackle.

Game two paired up The Feds and The Fury.  The Feds fired up the scoreboard first with a 49 yard touchdown from quarterback, Shawn Hudson to receiver, Emil Lovec.  Hudson was at ease behind the incredible blocking of his lineman, Neal Braunel, Joe Eckman and Steve Donovan and he earned offensive player of the week missing only four passes, going 11 of 15 for 310 yards and 4 touchdowns.  The first Hudson/Lovec touchdown connection was capped off by a successful conversion effort that showed concentration at it's finest when guard, Neal Braunel caught a deflected ball and took it in for the point.  Defensively The Feds also earned a player of the week, this time #6 Tony Rosales captured tackle after tackle grabbing a total of 9 flags and deflecting 2 balls.  Rosales was not working alone as team mate's John Ambrose, Emil Lovec and Rick MacQuarrie wreaked their own havoc.  Ambrose had 6 tackles while MacQuarrie had a tackle and 3 sacks.  Lovec had 4 tackles a deflection and an interception which he returned for 47 yards.  The first half was all Feds as receiver, Nate Nelson caught his team's second score for 48 yards.  Then, Lovec scored again and took the team into halftime with a 21-0 lead.  After the break The Fury was more successful both offensively and defensively.  Quarterback Dillon Berner completed 9 passes for 119 yards.  Berner found runningback, Mikel Williams twice in the air for 33 yards.  Williams ran the ball 16 times for 57 yards but The Fury's brightest moment came from a 35 yard touchdown run by Joe Imelli.  Imelli's score put The Fury down by only two touchdowns.  Imelli led The Fury defense with 4 tackles and his team held the Feds to only one TD in the second half.  But the Feds broke the Fury's run when Lovec scored on a 92 yard touchdown bomb.  Lovec was 4 for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The Feds beat The Fury 28-7.

The Spartans and The Panthers faced each other for the day's final game.  Both teams going in with a 1 and 3 record.  The Spartans coming in to the game following last week's 36-0 romp over the Scab team were hoping to keep their run going.  The Panthers also hoped to capture a second victory  but they showed up seriously under manned having only 10 players in attendance.  The Spartans kicked butt on both sides of the ball scoring 5 passing touchdowns, 2 rushing touchdowns and 1 defensive touchdown.  The Panthers were able to score two touchdowns in the game, both rushing as Eric Brown scored the team's first and quarterback Lee Robertson ran in the teams' last.   The Spartans' defense was brutal to The Panthers causing 5 interceptions and holding Quarterback Lee Robertson to only 50 yards passing.   Spartans' Ronald Heard, Victor McCombs and Shaun Davis-West each caught an interception.  Heard also had 5 tackles while McCombs also had 4 tackles.  Spartan Jacob Nordmon continued to make his presence in the league known posting again great numbers with a tackle a deflection and 2 interceptions one of which he ran back 36 yards for a touchdown.  Nordmon didn't stop defensively as he held his #1 receiving in the league spot with 3 more catches for 99 yards and a TD.  Spartan quarterback, Jeff Day mixed things up between all his receivers finding both Ronald Heard and Mike Navaro open for two touchdowns each.  Navaro had 80 total yards while Heard had 73.  Day completed 62.5% of his passes for 261 yards and 5 touchdowns.  He also rushed twice in the game both times for touchdowns and a total of 92 yards.  The Spartans lit up the field and took home their second victory in a row with a 57-13 final score.

Week 6 Game Summaries

The Spartans opened up week six against the only undefeated team, Mean Streak.  The Spartans came into the game following two consecutive wins.  Spartan quarterback, Jeff Day, had another huge game with the help of receiver, Jacob Nordman.  Day threw 31 passes completing 19 for 306 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Nordman was on the receiving end of 12 of Day's passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.  It looked like Mean Streak's winning streak was in jeopardy when The Spartan's put the first 6 points on the board.  But Mean Streak cornerback, Maurice Carter tied it up shortly after with a 31 yard touchdown returned from interception.  Mean Streak receiver, Kir Lewis, caught an 18 yard touchdown pass from QB, Paul Harting to take the lead, but Day found receiver Victor McCombs open for The Spartans answering score and a successful conversion gave The Spartans a 1 point lead.  Shortly before entering the half time break Harting took back the lead with a touchdown pass to Rainbo Tims.  Mean Streak entered the half with only an 18-13  lead.  Harting opened up the second half with a 63 yard rush for touchdown giving his team a more comfortable lead but again Day found Nordman in the endzone and brought the score back into reach.  Mean Streak's defense went to work late in the second half and Gary Noah, Maurice Carter and Jeremy Litka made sure The Spartans scored no more.  Litka posted 3 sacks along side of Noah's 8 tackles.  Carter caught his second INT and grabbed 4 tackles.  The Spartans' defense caused some of their own damage with Jacob Nordman, Victor McCombs and Jeff Day each catching an INT.  But, despite the turnovers Harting was not done scoring.  He threw the games' final touchdown on a quick 4 yard pass to Maurice Carter.  Harting was 14 of 19 for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns, he also rushed twice for 74 yards and a score.  Mean Streak remained undefeated following their 31-22 victory.

The Confederates met The Panthers for game two and it wasn't pretty.  Well, for Confederate fans I suppose it was but The Panthers have certainly seen better days.  The Fed's started off slowly turning the ball over on downs but after their opening drive they were unstoppable both offensively and defensively.  Falling short of the league record by only 1 point, The Feds racked up 72 points against The Panthers and literally scored within two plays of all of their drives.  Feds' cornerback Emil Lovec earned defensive player of the week grabbing 3 tackles and catching 3 interceptions of which he returned two for touchdowns.  Fed's linebacker, Rick MacQuarrie also caught an INT along with 4 tackles, 1 sack and a deflection.  Fed's linebacker, Jason Plaut filling in for the injured John Ambrose fell short of the league record 11 tackles in a game grabbing 10 tackles and posting a sack and a deflection as well.  Offensively Plaut earned player of the week rushing for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns, he also caught a 43 yard touchdown pass.  Once again The Feds' powerful linemen, Neal Braunel, Joe Eckman and rotating guards Rick MacQuarrie and Steve Donovan gave Fed's quarterback, Shawn Hudson plenty of time to find his receivers in the endzone.  Hudson completed 8 of 13 passes for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Feds' receiver Emil Lovec caught  one pass in the game for a 73 yard touchdown while receiver Nate Nelson caught 3 passes for 63 yards and 2 touchdowns.   Donovan and MacQuarrie rotated halves playing one half each at tight end and one half at guard.  Donovan caught 2 passes for 85 yards and MacQuarrie caught 1 pass for 48 yards while playing tight end.  Hudson also rushed in a touchdown from 15 yards back.  The Panthers avoided the shut out when back up quarterback, Kevin Cox threw a 41 yard touchdown to receiver Jeramie Moore.  Panther tight end, Eric Brown caught 4 passes for 69 yards in the game.  The final score was Feds 72 to the Panthers 6.

James Meyer and his scabs took on The Fury for the day's final game.  The Dogg Pound who was yet to win a game captured their first victory against The Fury.  The game was tied 13 all at half time but the second half belonged to the scabs.  Meyer, the only player eligible for stats for the scabs contributed defensively with 4 tackles and an INT.   Offensively Meyer caught one pass for 20 yards.  But the true hero for the Dogg Pound was fill in quarterback, Jeff Day.  Day threw for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns.  (NO Jeff, those don't count)  The Fury looked good in the first half with quarterback Dillon Berner throwing touchdowns to receivers Joe Imelli and Ben Kallas.   Kallas had a big game catching 3 passes for 96 yards.  Defensively for the Fury  T.J. McPherson did his best to stop the scab's progress with 4 tackles and 3 sacks.  Tim Williams and Mikel Williams also contributed by each catching an INT.  But the effort was unrewarding as The Fury was not able to stop The Dogg Pound from scoring in the second half and The Fury offense couldn't answer.  Fury runningback, Mikel Williams was held to an unusually low 32 yards rushing on 8 attempts.  In the air however, Quarterback, Berner's numbers were more impressive, he completed 10 of 21 passes for 227 yards and 2 touchdowns.  But the two touchdowns were not enough to match the four scored by the scabs.  The Dogg Pound beat The Fury 27-13.

Week 8 Game Summaries

The Confederates and The Spartans opened up week 8.  The Spartans showed up under-manned with only 8 players in attendance but the lack of players didn't stop the team from putting up a good fight in the first half.  At half time the two teams went into the break with only one point separating them.  The Confederates had 7 after quarterback, Shawn Hudson threw a quick pass to tight end Steve Donovan and Donovan ran 71 yards for the team's first score.  Runningback, Jason Plaut scored the conversion point.  The Spartans had six from quarterback, Jeff Day and receiver, Jacob Nordmon on a 36-yard touchdown pass.  Shortly before the half-time break, The Spartans found a willing pick-up player as The Fury's Greg Klitzke took the field to give the under-manned team a hand but despite the help the second half was all Confederate.  Hudson completed 75% of his passes throwing 15 of 20 for 312 yards and 5 touchdowns, 4 of which were in the second half. In addition to a passing threat the  Feds' runningback, Jason Plaut ran 9 times for 91 yards.  Feds' receiver, Nate Nelson only caught two passes in the game but that was all he needed to as both were for touchdowns.  Receivers Emil Lovec and Tony Rosales caught the other two Feds' scores.  Lovec was 6 for 96 yards total.  Defensively, Fed, Tony Rosales earned another player of the week award from his performance.  Rosales grabbed 8 tackles, 2 deflections and returned an interception for another TD.  Feds' defensive end, Joe Eckman tortured the Spartans' QB putting on major pressure and posting 5 sacks.  Cornerbacks Emil Lovec and Alex Victor each also caught interceptions in the game.  The Spartans first half efforts defensively were led by cornerback, Mike Navaro.  Navaro had 4 tackles, a sack and a deflection.  Navaro also stopped a conversion effort with a pick.  Spartans, Victor McCombs and Jason Silverhardt were also instrumental to the defense as McCombs had 6 tackles and Silverhardt had 3 tackles and 3 sacks.  The Feds beat The Spartans 38-6.

Game two put The Fury and Mean Streak on the field.  Mean Streak, the only team still undefeated going into the game, was determined to stay that way but The Fury was hungry to be the first to beat the 7 and 0 team.  The Fury put the first 7 points on the board.  Quarterback, Tim Williams, threw a 25 yard pass to tight end Claude Walker.  Williams also scored the games second score as he ran in a 17 yard TD.  The conversion was successful and The Fury had a 14 point lead over Mean Streak.  Mean Streak cornerback, Will Franklin, brought his team into the game catching an INT and returning it for Streak's first touchdown.  Fury, runningback, Mikel Williams wanted the two TD lead back and bolted 65 yards downfield for a touchdown.  But Mean Streak brought the game back into reach with quarterback, Paul Harting finding receiver, Sage Tims for an 18 yard touchdown right before half time.  At half time The Fury was leading Mean Streak 21-14.  After the break the game continued to stay close.  Fury tight end, Claude Walker upped the teams lead with a 37-yard touchdown reception putting them up 28-14.  Mean Streak rallied to get back into the game and quarterback, Paul Harting found receiver ,Jeremy Thompson open for a 38-yard touchdown.  The conversion was successful and now the Streak was down by only 1 TD.  Harting was successful again hitting Sage Tims for Tims' second score and the tying TD with only seconds left in regulation.  With the two teams tied The Fury hoped to score the games winning touchdown but they didn't have enough time to do so and the game went into overtime.  Overtime was full of fireworks.  The Fury took first possession and Mikel Williams' fantastic running set up a rushing TD by QB, Tim Williams. Mean Streak quickly answered with a touchdown pass from Harting to Thompson.  Both teams were stopped in their second and third attempts and then in the fourth and final round The Fury scored on an exciting touchdown catch by Ben Kallas.  Following Kallas' TD, Mean Streak now could only tie the game if they scored but The Fury defense got the job done and stopped them from getting into the endzone.  The Fury won in overtime 40-34 and sent Mean Streak home with their first loss.

Another close game wrapped up the week with The Panthers facing The Scabs (Dogg Pound).  It looked like it was going to be an ugly one for The Panthers with The Dogg Pound up 18-6 at halftime.  But after the half The Panthers rallied and took a one-point lead 19-18.  Panther, quarterback, Kevin Cox completed 15 of 30 passes for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Cox found receiver, Lee Robertson for his teams first two scores and receiver, Jeramie Moore for the third.  Robertson was 3 for 88 yards and Moore caught 4 for 58.  Kurt Hagenbach upped the Panther lead scoring the fourth Panther touchdown on a 28-yard pass from Cox.   The scabs were able to answer and convert bringing the score to a tie.  With little time left in regulation and the score tied, The Spartans drove downfield and were faced with a fourth and double stick situation.  My personal hero in the game was Panther receiver, Josh Rowland.  Rowland caught 5 passes for 88 yards in the game and defensively he grabbed a tackle, a deflection and an INT.  What made Rowland so special though was during The Spartans' fourth and double stick drive he deflected the pass at the five-yard line on a perfectly executed defensive play.  Unfortanatly for Rowland and his teammates, the refs didn't see it the way I did and Rowland was penalized for pass interference.  So, though it should have been a change of possession back to the Panthers, it was instead The Scabs who kept possession and had a first and goal situation.  The two yards they needed weren't hard to get and Scab, James Meyer scored the winning touchdown on a 2-yard run.  The Panthers got the ball back determined to counter their misfortune and quickly drove the ball down to the 1-yard line when time expired.  The Panthers had to suck up a 31-25 unfortunate loss.

THE PLAYOFF PICTURE

Following week 8's games here is how we stand for the playoffs.  Congratulations to Mean Streak, The Confederates and The Fury.  All three teams have clinched a playoff spot.  The one remaining playoff spot is still open.  With The Spartans 2 and 6 and The Panthers 1 and 7 and two games left the spot could still go to either team.  Please remember that The Dogg Pound Scab team is not eligible for the playoffs.
