Week 1 Game Summaries
Scores Vs. Rip-N-Tear
The Fall 2002 season kicked off with Scores facing Rip-N-Tear. Scores put the first points on the board when Mike Navarro caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from QB, Jeff Day. Rip-N-Tear answered quickly with a score of their own when Paul Harting returned the kick off all the way into the zone. Scores scored again in the first half. This time Jeff Day kept it on the ground rushing 13 yards for a TD. But Rip-N-Tear evened the score with a Paul Harting TD reception bringing the two teams into half time tied with 14. Scores buckled down and held Rip-N-Tear scoreless in the second half. Defensive End, Jason Silverhardt put major pressure on Rip's new QB, Lee Robertson, getting in his face several times and posting 4 sacks. Silverhardt also had 2 tackles and earned Defensive Player of the Week. Despite outstanding efforts by Rip-N-Tear, Safety, Paul Harting who had 7 tackles and 3 deflections, Scores was able to score 2 more touchdowns. Scores, running back, Travis Wade had an excellent day rushing 11 times for 86 yards and posting Scores' third TD. Jeff Day found receiver, Rich Machado for the team's final score on a 41-yard TD pass. Scores saw an opening day 28 to 14 victory over Rip-N-Tear.

Confederates vs. Stallions
Capping off opening day was the Confederates vs. the Stallions. The Confederates scored the first 6 points on a 56-yard strike from QB, Shawn Hudson to receiver, Emil Lovec. The Feds' lead didn't last long as Stallions' running back, Mikel Williams scored on a 60-yard touchdown run on the first down of their opening drive. Stallions' QB, Will Franklin found receiver, Larry Harper two times in the first half, both for TDs and a total 42 yards. Harper and Franklin were also instrumental defensively in stopping the Feds from scoring again in the first half. Harper had 6 tackles and Franklin had 1 tackle, 1 deflection and an INT. Feds' running back, Jason Plaut added 6 more points for his team with a 48-yard TD reception to open up the second half which followed a fumble recovery by James Meyer. Stallions' receiver, Tim Williams caught Franklin's third TD pass giving the team a 2-touchdown lead. The Feds came within 1 TD again when Hudson found Lovec for another score which would be their last. Stallions' running back, Mikel Williams wasn't finished. Mikel scored his team's final 2 touchdowns both rushing. He earned Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance, rushing 10 times for 147 yards and 3 TDs. The Stallions took home a 41 to 20 opening-day win over the Confederates.
