Rip-N-Tear vs. Confederates

Rip-N-Tear celebrated an opening-day win over the Carson Confederates.  With a well-executed game, offensive player of the week, quarterback Paul Harting, led his team to an 18-6 victory.  The game was a reality check for the Confederates who, after finishing in first place last season, may have come in today a little over confident.

Any illusions of grandeur the Confederates may have had were put to rest early, when on Rip-N-Tear's first drive, Harting completed a 65-yard, touchdown pass to wide receiver Jeremy Thompson.  While the Confederates attempted to answer, they were literally stopped in their tracks by Jeremy Harris' and Adam Hurley's two tackles and one deflection each and 3 tackles by Rudy Estrada.

A 7-yard touchdown pass from QB Shawn Hudson to receiver Chuck Heironimus, brought the game within 6 points once again for the Confederates.  But, it was the Confederate's inability to stop the run, along with several dropped passes, that allowed Rip-N-Tear twelve unanswered points.  In addition, the 3 sacks on Hudson by Rip-N-Tear's Adam Atkins, Jason Maffei and Jeremy Branham, greatly hindered a comeback effort.

Despite their loss, the Confederates still managed to put up some impressive numbers.  Hudson and WR Paul Heffern led the league this week, Hudson passing for 143 yards and 1 TD and Heffern receiving 7 passes for a total of 109 yards.  Deffensively, corner back, Butch Roberts had 2 tackles and 3 deflections.

Next week the Confederates play the Trojans who are also 0-1.  Rip-N-Tear will face the 1-0 Silver Hawks.  These match-ups should prove to be interesting, bumping one team into first place with 2 wins and hurtling another into last with none.

Trojans vs. Silver Hawks

It wasn't pretty but they got the job done. Prior to their 25-0 win on Sunday afternoon, Sparks Silver Hawks faced a major dilemma before they ever set foot on the field. Already, without backup quarterback and #1 receiver John Wood, who is still nursing a sprained ankle, they learned in midweek that starting quarterback Lee Robertson would miss at least the first half due to prior commitments. Starting center and emergency QB Stephen Jesse was forced to step back into the play-calling position for the first 30 minutes. The offense clearly struggled as Jesse went just 1 for 4 for 20 yards, with most of the team's 1st half yardage resulting from the ground game. John Manwaring anchored the Trojan defense with a tackle and 3 batted balls. With under 2:00 to play in the first half, the Silver Hawks finally dented the scoreboard as left cornerback Roy Berg returned a Trojan fumble 50 yards for a touchdown. The Hawks went up 7-0 as Jesse ran the ensuing play 3 yards for the point after.

"The offense was completely out of sync in the 1st half," stated team captain Stephen Jesse. "We had a center playing quarterback, a receiver playing center, and a part time lineman playing on the right side wideout. We just couldn't get into any kind of rhythm." The Hawks got their starting QB Lee Robertson for the start of the second half. Though Robertson struggled in the passing department going just 1-8 for 45 yards, he was a key player overall as he rushed twice for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns, putting the Silver Hawks ahead 19-0. Mauricio Varela, who gained heavy consideration for both the offensive and defensive player of the week, had a late game reception for 65 yards which went for a touchdown to seal the win at 25-0. Varela also added a pair of interceptions on the defensive side for returns of 23 and 19 yards. Robert Ryan had a total of 6 carries for 60 yards from the running back position and Roy Berg had one reception for 20 yards.

With the offense stuck in first gear for the majority of the game, the defense was more than ready to answer the call. Jeremy Harrison led the defensive attack as he kept the pressure on the Trojan offense all day long. Harrison, the recipient of the league's defensive player of the week, collected a sack, 4 tackles, and 1 deflection. Stephen Jesse added a sack and Rob Horseman chipped in with 3 tackles. On the day, the defense forced 4 turnovers for a total of 101 yards.

"I think overall we were disappointed with our play," stated Jesse. "The defense was good but we had our share of mistakes on that side as well. We had a lot of dumb penalties. The offense was well below par. We got a good look at our opponents for next week's game, and if our offense doesn't improve dramatically, we'll be up the creek in a hurry."

The Silver Hawks have reported that wide receiver/cornerback John Wood is probable for next week's game against Rip-N-Tear. Both teams are 1-0.

League Sees First Trade

Pumped full of positive attitude, he's 160 lbs of pure determination with

talent to back it up.  He knows what he wants and he knows how to get it.

He's Robert Ryan and he has just made CCFFL history.

Early this evening, after playing a fill-in position for the Trojans, Ryan

had himself traded from the Silver Hawks.  He must have thought that the

Trojans, who were in desperate need of players to fill their roster, could

better utilize him.  Silver Hawks' Captain, Stephen Jesse relayed after the

trade, "Robert made it clear to me that he felt that he was being misused as

our primary running back.  He asked for a trade and I didn't hesitate to give

it to him.  I don't want anyone on our team that doesn't want to be here."

It looks like Ryan will have a much better opportunity to realize his

dreams playing for the developing Trojans and those dreams are big.  "I'm

one of the cockiest players in the league," Ryan stated zealously.  "I only

have 20 yards in the first 2 weeks but I still believe I can go to 2000 in the

season."  He is a player who would like to make as big of a contribution to

his team and as great an impact on the league as he possibly can.

His presence has already hammered its way into the books as Ryan

becomes the first player in CCFFL history to be traded.  The trade became

a bit NFL-like as described by Jesse, "I immediately put him on waivers

this afternoon and began negotiations with the Trojans management shortly

thereafter.  The deal was a little rough around the edges but we eventually

reached a compromise."

While Ryan may not have to worry about salary caps anytime soon,

he is very excited about his new team.  "I think I'll be a lot happier on the

Trojan's team."  It remains to be seen whether or not he can reach his

2000 yards goal but with an abundance of contagious enthusiasm and drive,

there is no doubt that Robert Ryan will go far.

                                                                                                                                ... by Jennifer Smith

Robert Ryan officially joins The Trojans

It started off as the CCFFL's first trade.  But after hours of talks Monday night between league director Shawn Hudson and concerned parties, Silver Hawks Captain Stephen Jesse and former Silver Hawk Robert Ryan, the so called trade became the league's first controversy.

It was Ryan's position that the CCFFL Rule Book clearly states a team may add players to it's roster up until week three of the season.  Ryan also stated that this is a recreational league and he is not under any contract to play with a particular team.  Therefore, he strongly felt it was his right to quit the Silver Hawks and join The Trojans.

Jesse however disagreed.  Although he acknowledged that he did not want anyone on his team that did not want to be there, he felt his team deserved to be compensated for the loss of a player they had practiced with and come to depend on.

Hudson carefully reviewed the Official Rule Book and determined Ryan had a valid position.  Jesse was then left with only one option, as a Captain in the CCFFL he has the right to protest and bring the issue to the board of captains for a vote.  He did so.

Tuesday afternoon after all of the captains had been consulted and rendered there vote, the majority went in Ryan's favor.  Robert Ryan became an official Trojan.

It is the policy of the Carson City Flag Football League to put any dispute, concern or proposed rule changes to all of the captains for a vote.  League Director Shawn Hudson only votes in the event of a tie.  All Captains in the league are considered official  CCFFL board members.

TO COMMENT ON THE ROBERT RYAN SITUATION, GO TO THE FEEDBACK PAGE AND FILL OUT THE FORM.  WE ARE INTERESTED IN THE PLAYERS OPINIONS.  WE WILL POST ALL COMENTS.

Silver Hawks vs. Rip-N-Tear

The opening game this weekend featured a match-up between the 2 winners in week 1. Rip-N-Tear, led by reigning offensive player of the week, Paul Harting, drove the field at will throughout the first half, taking a 13-0 lead at halftime. Harting had another impressive game throwing for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns and running for an additional 93 yards and 1 touchdown. Jeremy Thompson led the receiving corps with 3 catches totaling 98 yards and 1 touchdown. Thompson also tacked on 1 rush for 24 yards but was far more impressive on the defensive side of the ball as he collected 6 tackles, an interception and a deflection. Both of Rip-N-Tear's first half touchdowns were a direct result of botched interceptions by the Silver Hawk defense. Roy Berg, who was robbed of an interception on Rip-N-Tear's second drive, atoned for his earlier mishap with an interception late in the first half but was lost for the remainder of the game as he suffered a sprained knee during the play.

The Silver Hawks, for the second consecutive game, failed to score an offensive touchdown in the opening half of play. Lee Robertson, who put up fair numbers overall going 12-22 for 112 yards with a touchdown and 2 interceptions, failed to move the offense for the first 30 minutes. In fact, the Silver Hawks didn't even penetrate into the opposition's territory until midway through the second half.

Trailing 19-0 midway through the second half, the Silver Hawks got a breath of life as Rip-N-Tear surrendered a safety due to a bad snap out of the end zone. Trailing 19-2, the Hawks capitalized on the situation as they advanced the ensuing possession for a score as Robertson hit wide receiver Rob Horseman on a 33-yard touchdown strike. The game would see no more scoring as Rip-N-Tear secured their second victory on the season winning 19-8.

The Silver Hawks will need to address several offensive questions this week and plan to add 1-2 free agents prior to next week's meeting with the Carson Confederates (1-1). An evaluation will be made by Monday night to determine the future of wide receiver/cornerback John Wood with the team. Rip-N-Tear will face the Trojans next week and try to hold on to their undefeated status.

Confederates vs. Trojans

After a disappointing loss last week, the Confederates bring their record even to 1 - 1 with a win today over the Trojans.  Defensive player of the week, Chuck Heironimus, led the Confederate's defense with 4 tackles and 2 INTs.  He also caught 3 passes for a total of 90 yards and 2 TDs on offense.

The Trojans tried to stop the Feds with a tackle each by John Manwaring and Jorge Barataf, 1 sack by John Galli and a deflection by James Meyer.  But the Feds made it difficult with 5 tackles by John Ambrose, 4 tackles by Shawn Hudson, 2 sacks by Chuck Tonzi and 2 deflections each for Pari Thor & Paul Heffern.

The game was close at the half with a Trojan's TD, bringing the score to 13 - 6.  Offensively, James Meyers was a standout for the Trojans with 2 Receptions for 28 yards and 23 rushing yards.  But the Fed's offense proved strong with, League-Leading QB for the second week in a row, Shawn Hudson completing 6 - 11 - 191 and 4 TDs, ending the game with a score of 34 - 14.

Crazy Sundays--A Note From the Directors

For the last two weeks after games have ended, we have

rushed home and put stats and information together.  With

each new week of accumulated stats it becomes more and

more time-consuming.  Because of this we are going to

have to take a little more time to update our website.  We

want to bring you complete and accurate information as

soon as possible because we know that anticipation starts

to build as soon as the games are over but we can't stay

up all night every Sunday (We get so tired).  Our new

deadline for an updated website will be Monday night at

midnight.  We hope you understand this slight delay.

Trojans vs. Rip-N-Tear

Rip-N-Tear continued there winning streak Sunday by dominating the Trojans in a 43-0 victory.  Rip-N-Tear Quarterback, Paul Harting had an exceptional day, completing 8 of 13 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns, three of them going to offensive player of the week, Rainbo Timms who gained 115 yards in his three attempts.  Justin Harris also contributed by catching 4 passes for 79 yards.  A strong showing by Rip-n-Tears offensive line made all of this possible.

Although the Trojans were still rebuilding there team as of game day, the team showed signs of coming together when James Meyers broke out a 24 yard run and caught 2 passes for 16 yards.  The Trojans played with a lot of heart and determination but  Rip-N-Tear's defense led by defensive player of the week, Rudy Estrada was too much to overcome. Estrada posted an incredible 5 tackles, 1 deflection and 2 INT's on the day.   Adam Hurley also picked off 2 Trojan passes including one that he ran 22 yards back for a TD.

The Trojans have acquired several new players since there loss and are looking forward to the rest of the season. They are confident that they will improve weekly and are looking forward to redemption in their next meeting.

Silver Hawks vs. Confederates

As the two teams met for the first time this season, the Confederates got back on track showing signs of the team that they were in the Fall season by beating the determined and physical Silver Hawks 35-0.  The Confederates had an outstanding performance by Quarterback, Shawn Hudson who completed 12 of 17 passes for 265 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Also leading the way to victory was Chuck Heironimus who was on the receiving end of five of Hudson's passes for an amazing 175 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Tight end, Virgil Berry had a career day on both sides of the ball, catching four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown and leading the way on defense with six tackles.

The Silver Hawks who were plagued by injuries and hardships during the prior week came in confident that they would overcome their misfortune with an all-new, impressive QB but, after only one play, newly-named starter, Mauricio Varela suffered an injury to his thumb.  This gave way to Quarterback, Lee Robertson who didn't fare well passing against the Fed's defense, completing only 2 of 12 for 19 yards.  Robertson did gain 37 yards rushing on the day but the Fed defense's twenty, combined tackles made it hard for the Hawks to go very far.

New addition to the Silver Hawks, Sean Osburn,  led the defensive effort with four tackles.  Will Sanborn wasn't far behind with 2 tackles, a sack and an interception.  The Silver Hawks hope to be healed up and back on track in two weeks for thier rematch with the Trojans.  Captain, Stephen Jesse has reported that  QB, Mauricio Varela is expected back for that game.

The anticipation builds for the Confederates as they approach thier rematch with undefeated Rip-N-Tear.  It should prove to be a good game; both teams come loaded with current league leaders.  The Confederates are hungry for a win after losing to Rip-N-Tear in thier last meeting 18-6.  But that win won't come easy as Rip-N-Tear arrives with the league's  #1 defense.

                                        ALL STAR GAME INFORMATIONAll-Star Specifics

The All-Star game will be played on July 18, as will our League Championship game.  On the same day, we are also hosting a Championship game between the CCFFL's Championship team and the Championship team from our All-Star opponents, the Bay Point Flag Football League.

We will be playing the 3 games on the same day because the BPFFL will be incurring traveling expenses and will only be here at that time.  There will be some players who will play in all three games.  If any of the captains or players have concerns about this, please let us know ASAP.

Tentetively, the schedule will be:  The CCFFL Championship Game followed by the CCFFL vs. BPFFL Championship Game and finishing with the All-Star Game between the CCFFL and the BPFFL.  We hope that this will be successful and in the fall we plan to travel there for the event.

Following is the criteria for All-Star selection:

  •       We will elect 1 QB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB, 1C and 2G for the offense.  Also elected will be one alternate QB and one alternate WR.  The four head captains will vote on the center and two guards.   The QB, WR, RB, and TE positions will be elected strictly by stats.  The league leaders in yardage for those positions will be selected.  If there is a tie, the winner will be determined based on most touchdowns.

  •      We will elect 1S, 3CB, 2LB, and 2 DE for the defense.  Also elected will be one alternate CB.  The safety, cornerbacks and linebackers will be selected by being the league leaders in tackles for those positions.  The Defensive Ends will be determined by being the league leaders in sacks for that position.  In the event of a tie for any defensive position, determination will be made by most INT's.  If there is still a tie, the most INT return yardage will be used.

  •      One Kicker and One Punter will be elected, as well as a Kick Returner and a Punt Returner.   Kicker and Punter will be based on Least return yardage.  Kick Returner and Punt Returner will be based on most return yardage.

  •      All captains must confirm player's positions before the next game.  You may not be elected to the all-star team in a position which you are not listed as playing.  Because this is primarily a passing league, the running back position will be determined by the rushing leader no matter what position he is listed as.  Any one player may be elected for more than one starting position so long as it is his listed position.

  •      The all star team will be selected,  following the final regular season game.  We will post it on the website before  July 1.

Silver Hawks vs. Trojans

In what was dubbed as the "Crow Bowl" by some league members, the Sparks Silver Hawks walked away with a 26-8 victory of the winless Carson Trojans. With the Hawk's former quarterback, running back, and tight end now in the starting lineup for the Trojans, the Silver Hawks were left with an 11-man roster, which includes injured wide receiver Roy Berg, and newcomers Bobby Leitko and Adam Presley. Although their team has been rapidly withering away over the last 2 weeks, the team's offense looked better than it had all season long.

The Silver Hawks scored 4 offensive touchdowns which matched their total for the first 3 games. Utilizing a 2-quarterback system, the Silver Hawks displayed an excellent blend of the running and passing games combining for 285 yards, 154 which came via the rush. "It's amazing how well our offense came together now that all of the right pieces are in place," stated team captain Stephen Jesse. "We hadn't been spreading the ball out at all during the first 3 games but now we have players who understand what it means to play as a team--not as an individual." Sean Osburn started at quarterback and set the tone for the ground game as he rushed 5 times for 43 yards on the team's opening drive. With the running game established, Mauricio Varela took control at the quarterback position, incorporating the passing game and throwing for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns. Varela did an excellent job spreading the ball to his receivers and running the option, as he rushed for 70 yards on 5 carries. Adam Presley added 21 yards on the ground on 3 carries and Will Sanborn chipped in 16 yards on 2 carries. The Silver Hawks opened up the scoring when Varela hit tight end Jerry Decker on a 15-yard touchdown off of a busted flea-flicker. Decker would add another reception on the day totaling 20 yards on 2 receptions. Varela was able to run the ensuing conversion 8 yards as his team took an 8-0 lead into the half. After recovering a fumbled kickoff by Lee Robertson to begin the second half, the Silver Hawks immediately capitalized as Varela again ran the option for a touchdown putting the Hawks ahead 14-0. Following a defensive stand, the Hawks were able to take the ensuing drive for their third touchdown on the afternoon, as Varela hit Sean Osburn on an 18-yard pass giving them a comfortable 20-0 lead midway through the second half. The Trojans were finally able to break into the scoring column when John Galli sacked Varela in the end zone making the score 20-2.

With the defense, led by 2nd time Player of the Week Jeremy Harrison, playing superbly all afternoon, the Hawks were able sustain any meaningful drive by the Trojans, and the control the time of possession with their running game. Harrison racked up 6 tackles and one fumble recovery as he kept the pressure on Trojan quarterback Lee Robertson for the full 60 minutes. Outside linebacker Rob Horsman contributed 4 tackles giving him 13 on the season. Robertson completed 5 of 25 passes for 100 yards in his Trojan debut, 34 of which came on the team's only touchdown strike to converted wide receiver John Manwaring, cutting the lead to 20-8. Manwaring would also have a nice afternoon on defense as he accrued 5 tackles and a sack. Robertson would also add 40 yards rushing, giving him 228 on the season, and 140 of his team's 149 all-purpose yards. The remaining 4 completions went for a total of 66 yards to tight end Terry Metcalf. Leading by 12 with less than 4 minutes remaining, Varela hit wide receiver Bobby Leitko on a 60-yard bomb putting the game out of reach at 26-8. Leitko would lead all receivers as he collected 78 yards on 3 receptions. Varela would sum up his afternoon by intercepting Robertson on the Trojan's final possession.

The Silver Hawks, now 2-2, will play a grueling double-header next week against the Carson Confederates and unbeaten Rip-N-Tear. The Trojans will seek their first win of the season as they face the Confederates.

Confederates vs. Rip-N-Tear

The score went back and forth all day in the much anticipated Rip-N-Tear Confederate rematch. Throughout the game the excitement endured.

Harting, who captured the Offensive Player of the week title for the second time this season, was, as always, unstoppable rushing with 4 attempts for 147 yards, two of them for TDs. Another Rip-N-Tear offensive standout was receiver Rainbo Timms who was 3 for 90 yards today. The only Rip-N-Tear TD reception came from #23 James Striplan. Defensively Striplan was also strong with 5 tackles.

Confederate QB Hudson had yet another huge stat day completing 14 of 30 passes for 253 yards and a TD. He also rushed for 2 TDs. Wide Receiver Paul Heffern was 8 for 180 yards and a TD. But despite great offensive numbers Rip-N-Tear's defense was able to hit the feds where it hurts the most as Adam Atkins and Jeremy Branham both posted two sacks each on Hudson. Paul Harting stopped the Fed's opening drive with an interception that led to a Rip-N-Tear score.

The Confederates were confident they had ended Rip-N-Tear's winning streak when Fed's Quarterback Hudson snuck the football into the zone making the score 21-20 Feds and leaving only 23 seconds left in the game. But on the ensuing kickoff Rip-N-Tear's Paul Harting dodged and wound his way 98 yards for the winning TD. Desperate to regain the lead with only 12 seconds remaining, Hudson put up a Hail-Mary pass only to be intercepted and returned for a TD by Rip's safety Rudy Estrada making the final score 34-21.

These two rival teams will meet again in the final regular season game on June 27. That game should be another exciting battle. Fed's Captain Shawn Hudson stated after the game, "It was a good game. It's a good rivalry. We can't wait to play them again."

fifth edition, June 13, 1999

Rip-N-Tear Vs. Silver Hawks

Rip-N-Tear remained undefeated after beating the Silver Hawks 40-6 in game one of the Silver Hawks double header. The Silver Hawks, despite absences of starting quarterback Mauricio Varela and defensive stand out Rob Horseman came out looking strong.  After stopping Rip-N-Tear's opening drive on downs, Hawk's stand in quarterback Sean Osburn marched them down the field and put them in scoring range.  But the drive was ended on an intercepted pass by Rip-N-Tear safety Rudy Estrada.

Estrada's first of three INTs in the game began Rip-N-Tear's momentum.  Quarterback Paul Harting completed 5 passes for 194 yards mixing it up between his receivers.  Estrada caught one of two Harting TD bombs for 57 yards the other 64 yarder going to #81 Rainbo Timms.  In classic Harting form the QB rushed twice for 79 yards both times scoring 6.

The Silver Hawks who were playing with a limited roster of only 8 never let up on offense.  Osburn completed 6 of 13 passes for 128 yards.  108 of those going to #9 Bobby Leitko.  But the Rip-N-Tear defense was too much to handle holding the Hawks to only one rushing TD by Osburn.

Defensive player of the week Adam Hurley of Rip-N-Tear accumulated 8 tackles in the game, breaking the league record which was 6.

Rip-N-Tear will try to hold on to their undefeated status as they meet the Trojans next week.  The Silver Hawks will play The Confederates.

Confederates Vs. Silver Hawks

Game 2 for the Silver Hawks on their double header day ended in disappointment again when the 2 and 2 Confederates upped their win column to 3 with a 27-12 victory.

Just as they had in their previous game the Hawks came out strong.  Sean Osburn who was filling in for starting QB Mauricio Varela put the game's first 6 points on the scoreboard.  Osburn rushed 10 times for 73 yards and 2 TDS in the game.  Also instrumental in moving the ball for the Silver Hawks was #22 Jerry Decker who was 3 for 65 yards.

But the Fed's defense was able to contain the Hawks to only 12 points with Linebacker's Virgil Berry and John Ambrose each getting 5 tackles along with Cornerback Chuck Heironimus.  Butch Roberts also intercepted a pass and ended a promising Silver Hawk's drive.

The Silver Hawk's defense came at Fed's QB Shawn Hudson rigorously.  Jeremy Harrison posted 2 sacks on Hudson. Will Sanborn also sacked Hudson once and collected a tackle.  But the key Confederated match-up of Hudson and #1 League leading receiver Chuck Heironimus were able to sustain the pressure as they hooked up 3 times for 174 yards and 3 TDS.  Hudson who captured the offensive player of the week title was 7 of 9 passes for 196 yards giving him a completion percentage for the game of 77.7.

The two teams will meet again next week for their final game against each other in regular season.

Trojans Vs. Confederates

The Confederates went home with 2 wins on their double header day after beating the Trojans 32-6.

Despite 2 interceptions captured by Trojan cornerback's Robert Ryan and James Meyer, Confederate quarterback Shawn Hudson was able to hook up with 4 different receivers for TDS.  Pari Thor caught one giving him his first TD reception of the year.  Chuck Heironimus, Paul Heffern and Virgil Berry caught the other three.  Berry captured a personal best record with his catch, going 79 yards.

The Trojans moved the ball respectively with Robert Ryan and Terry Metcalf.  Metcalf caught the only Trojan touchdown and was 4 for 28 yards.  Ryan was 2 for 38 yards.  But the Confederate defense stopped all but one of the Trojan drives as Chuck Heironimus caught 3 interceptions and Paul Heffern caught 1.

The Trojans will play the undefeated Rip-N-Tear next Sunday.

SORRY

Just a note to anyone who follows the news page.  Please accept my apologies for the shortness of the articles and the delay in getting them posted this week.  I am in the middle of  a personal medical crisis with my father who was hospitalized from his cancer last week and is not doing well.  I have been spending most of my time there and haven't been able to devote that much time to this.  I hope the circumstances will be different next Sunday, but regardless I will do my best to get it done promptly.

                                                                                    Thanks,  Tracey Hudson

mpleting 14 of 30 passes for 253 yards and a TD. He also rushed for 2 TDs. Wide Receiver Paul Heffern was 8 for 180 yardRip-N-Tear Vs. Trojans

Rip-N-Tear remains unbeaten after shutting out the Trojans for the second time this season.  Quarterback Paul Harting completed 13 of 20 passes for 148 yards and 4 TDS mixing it up generously amongst his receivers.  Rudy Estrada, Justin Harris, James Striplin and Adam Hurley all caught Touchdown passes.  Harting led Rip-N-Tear in receiving yards with a 60 yard Touchdown reception from wide receiver Perrie Perry.

With the return of Trojan quarterback Lee Robertson who was absent last week, the Trojans hoped to move the ball successfully against Rip-N-Tear's powerful defense.  But the passing game was shut down despite efforts by tight end Terry Metcalf who caught 4 passes for 32 yards.  INTs by Rudy Estrada, Jasen Maffei and defensive player of the week James Striplin made it difficult for the Trojans to go anywhere.  Estrada and Maffei also had 4 tackles each and Striplin posted 5.  Striplin also scored six for Rip-N-Tear when he ran his INT in for TD.  Rip's defensive trio forced most of the Trojans offensive movement to come on the ground.  Robertson carried the ball 7 times for 74 yards.

Trojan cornerbacks Robert Ryan and Brian Ranalla both had impressive defensive stats in spite of the disappointing loss. Both men had three tackles.  Ranalla also had one deflection and Ryan blocked 2.

Rip-N-Tear and the Trojans will both finish regular season next week with double headers.  The two teams will face off again following the Trojans meeting with the Silver Hawks.  Rip-N-Tear will end the day with the Confederates.

Confederates Vs. Silver Hawks

With the teams gearing up for the playoffs, The Carson Confederates seemed to be hitting on all cylinders, sending the Silver Hawks home with a 34-0 loss.

The Silver Hawks who have been plagued by personnel problems still showed signs of promise as they moved the ball 218 yards against the Confederate defense.  But the Feds held tough in the trenches holding the Hawks scoreless. Confederate defensive end Mike Mooney had a personal best day with 4 tackles.  Mooney was in the company of Linebackers John Ambrose who grabbed 5 flags and Virgil Berry who took 4.  Ambrose also deflected 2 balls.

Silver Hawk quarterback Mauricio Varela completed 9 passes for 159 yards and rushed 5 times for 40 yards.  Varela met receiver Bobby Leitko 4 times for 91 yards and hit Jerry Decker twice on successful fourth down conversions for 33 yards.  But INTs by Fed's safety Shawn Hudson and CB Chuck Heironimus killed hopes of a Hawk's score.

Fed's QB Shawn Hudson along with League Leading Receivers Chuck Heironimus and Paul Heffern put on a show of numbers.  Hudson earned himself offensive player of the week for the second time by having his name associated with all 5 of the Fed's TDs.  He completed 15 of 22  passes for 281 yards and 3 TDs.  Hudson would also rush 4 times for 84 yards and  a TD and receive a 41 yard TD reception from Heffern.  Heffern was 5 of 96 yards receiving and a TD.  Heironimus led the fed's receivers with 6 catches for 123 yards and 2 TDs.

The Fed's offensive line consisting of center Mike Mooney, and guards Mike Heffern and Tim Ellis were credited by Hudson after the game:  "The line was awesome today" he said.

The Silver Hawk's defense held tight as all 8 of their players in attendance had at least one tackle.  Rob Horseman led the defense with 6 tackles and 1 sack.  Also moving Hudson backwards with a sack was Silver Hawk Captain Stephen Jesse.

The Silver Hawks will meet the Trojans next week and hope to wrap up their regular season with a third win against the team.  The Feds will close with Rip-N-Tear and hope to end Rip's winning streak and grab their first win against the undefeated team.

Silver Hawks Vs. Trojans

It took until the very last week of the regular season, but the Trojans finally dented the win column in their 36-19 win over the spiraling Silver Hawks on Sunday. The Trojans, sporting a near complete team overhaul with the addition of 4 newcomers in week 8, torched the Silver Hawk defense for a total of 332 yards of offense and 6 touchdowns. Lee Robertson had a breakout performance as he passed for 291 yards and 5 touchdowns. He hooked up with his brother Andy Robertson 3 times for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns, and would also find wide receiver James Meyer 4 times for 92 yards and a score. Robert Ryan, now playing primarily as a defensive specialist, had a standout day as he collected 5 tackles and a deflection. Ryan would also be the only Trojan to qualify outright for the all-star team. Terry Metcalf also added an interception for a return of 31 yards, which set up a scoring opportunity for the Trojans.

The Silver Hawks found themselves once again plagued by the injury bug. Starting quarterback Sean Osburn was unable to play on Sunday due to an injury to his leg, and wide receiver Roy Berg took an additional week off to rest torn ligaments in his knee. The Hawks had little to get excited about on offense, however wide receiver Bobby Leitko was able to top 400 yards for the season as he gained 135 yards on 5 receptions and added a touchdown. Leitko, who joined the league in week 4, totaled 401 yards on 16 receptions and qualified for the all-star team as the alternate wide receiver. Defensively, outside linebacker Rob Horsman added 3 more tackles giving him an impressive total of 22 through only 6 games this season. Horsman also added an interception for a return of 11 yards and will represent the Hawks as the starting linebacker for the league's all-star game. The Hawks will also send Jeremy Harrison to the all-star game as the starting offensive guard.

The Silver Hawks, losers of 4 straight, will open the playoff slate on July 11 at 11:30 AM versus the Carson Confederates. The Trojans will play the regular season champion Rip-N-Tear at 1:00 PM.and a

PLAYOFFS

Confederates VS. SILVER HAWKS

The Confederates came out smoking on the hottest day of the season to date, advancing them to the Championship Game with a 35-2 victory over the Silver Hawks.  The feds who finished second in regular season played to near perfection. Quarterback Shawn Hudson completed 19 of 21 passes for a record 350 yards and 5 TDs.  All of Hudson's receivers got their hands on the ball.   League MVP Chuck Heironimus who has had an awesome year statistically on both offense and defense caught 7 passes for 162 yards and 3 TDs.  While Paul Heffern lit up the other side of the field catching 5 passes for 128 yards and 2 TDs.  Confederate rookie Thor Pari who has come into his own over the last few weeks caught 3 passes for 21 yards.  Also getting in on the action was Fed's tight end Virgil Berry who caught 4 passes for 39 yards.  Berry had his best season so far this Spring finishing regular season with 255 yards.

The Silver Hawks had a hard time moving the ball offensively.  The team has struggled over the last several weeks due to the loss of several players.  All star wide receiver Bobby Leitko rushed 6 times for 87 yards.  But the Feds were able to keep the Silver Hawks out of the end zone.  Leitko filled in for the missing Hawk's starting quarterback.   Though the absence of players and mid-season shuffling greatly hurt the Silver Hawks ability to maintain an offensive game plan their defense remained tough.  The team's faithful veterans Stephen Jesse, Rob Horseman, Will Sanborn, Jeremy Harrison, Adam Presley, and Jerry Decker never let up.  All star Linebacker Horseman had 4 tackles in the game.  Also representing the Silver Hawks in the all star game will be Harrison who had 2 tackles and 2 sacks in the game.   Jesse and Sanborn each had a sack and two tackles.  The Silver Hawks avoided a shut out when Presley sacked Hudson in the end zone giving them 2 points.

The Confederates will play their rivals Rip-N-Tear next Sunday at 12:00 to determine who will be the CCFFL's Spring season champions.  The Feds finished regular season with 1 win and 2 losses in their 3 meetings with Rip-N-Tear.

RIP-N-TEAR VS. TROJANS

Sorry guys, we did not keep stats for this game because it was a playoff game and not necessary, so this article is by memory and may contain a mistake or even two and not a whole lot of info.  Let me know if you see something wrong and I'll fix it.  Thanks,  Tracey

Rip-N-Tear facing a rejuvenated and revamped Trojan team showed why they finished the regular season first, winning their playoff game 41-12.

Rip-N-Tear captain and quarterback Paul Harting who led the league in rushing moved his team down the field over and over again scoring 6 touchdowns and converting extra points 3 times.  Harting had an impressive season as the leader of his team with a 7 and 1 record.  He also was voted Offensive Player of the week twice and made the all star team in three positions:  Running Back, Cornerback and Alternate Quarterback.   Joining Harting on the all star list is Wide Receiver Rainbo Tims, who caught 2 of the games 6 TDs.  Tims had an impressive season, finishing third overall in the receiver corps.  #30 Adam Hurley was an  instrumental part of the Rip-N-Tear offense also scoring 2 TDs in the game.   Hurley was not only outstanding offensively but defensively as well finishing the season with the all star safety honor alongside of teammate Rudy Estrada.  Estrada led the league in both tackles and interceptions.  Rip's all star elected center Adam Atkins got a rare shot at catching a pass when he lined up in the tight end spot and caught a short pass in the end zone.

The Trojans came to the game excited and full of hope generated from their first win the previous week against the Silver Hawks.   Trojan captain John Manwaring was all over the field along with newcomer Will Franklin whose debut was very impressive.  Franklin was rotated at just about every position and collected numerous tackles.  Trojan quarterback Lee Robertson found tight end Terry Metcalf several times for catches including one for six points.  Robertson also completed a touchdown pass to Franklin.

Rip-N-Tear faces the Confederates in next week's Championship show down at noon.  Following that game at 2:00 will be a championship game against The Bay Point California Flag Football League Champs and our champions.  The Trojans will have #21 Robert Ryan representing them in the CCFFL's all star game against the BPFFL's all stars next Sunday at 3:30.

e A note from the Director

To the league,

Although, I've been on the losing end of consecutive championship games.  Both of which, were very close games.  I was very pleased at the way this Sunday's games went.  I was proud of the way our league conducted ourselves in front of our guests from California.  I was also very, very pleased at the way we came together in the all star game.  I had a great time playing with members of all of our league's teams and was happy to see that everyone seemed to be having a good time.  This league was meant to provide a clean, competitive place to play football while having a good time.  Although we had a few low spots, I think for the most part it went pretty well and hopefully each season will be even better.  So I thank all of the members and hope you feel the same.  See you in the Fall,

Championship Game

Rip-N-Tear Vs. Confederates

Rip-n-Tear and the Confederates met again this Sunday, but this time a victory was essential.  The game would decide who would be The first Carson City Flag Football League Champions.  It  was a close match throughout, with both teams scoring only two TDs.  But it was the conversion points that would ultimately decide the game.  The Feds went into half time with a 7-6 lead, both teams had scored a TD but Rip-N-Tear had failed their conversion point effort.  After the half it was Rip-n-Tear who after scoring the teams second TD in the game went for a successful 2 point conversion, thus giving them a 14-7 lead.  The Confederates were then able to answer Rip-N-Tear's score with one of their own, however when trying to tie the game by going for a one point conversion, Rip-N-Tear was able to shut down their attempt.  The final two minutes of the game saw the Confederates frantically trying to drive down for a game winning score, as they edged their way closer to the end zone, it looked as though they might succeed, but Rip-N-Tear made sure that didn't happen and took home the championship with a 14-13 victory over their rivals The Confederates.

Gold and Silver Bowl

The Bay Point flag football league's championship team; The Bandits and The Carson City flag football league's championship team;  Rip-N-Tear,  met for the first ever Silver and Gold Bowl.  The final score was Bandits 13 Rip-N-Tear 6.  Thank you to the Bandits and Rip-N-Tear for a good clean and fun game.

All Star Game

The Bay Point Flag Football league all star team took home the winning trophy against The Carson City Flag Football League all star team.  The game was scoreless until the BPFFL scored the games only Touchdown late in the final half.  It was an exciting defensive match  throughout the game but in the end it was Bay Point's defense that would prevail shutting out The CCFFL 6-0.great o
